Salary Survey

APEGA's salary survey (formally called the Value of Professional Services) provides market data on current compensation and benefits for professional engineers and professional geoscientists in Alberta.

Data for this study are collected and reported using eight distinct responsibility levels, 10 industry sectors, and 10 branch regions across the province. 

In 2018, 258 Permit Holders participated in the survey, representing more than 15,900 APEGA Members.

Why It's Important to Participate in the Salary Survey

Participating in APEGA's annual salary survey provides you with current market trends, and it enables you to create or adjust competitive salary and compensation packages, thus reducing employee turnover.

Participating companies will receive access to the results in early fall.

This document shows the base salaries (including minimum, maximum, median, and average) for 12 engineering and geoscience job classifications (responsibility levels) based on:

  • total sample (all companies and industries)
  • industry classifications and sectors
  • gender
  • years of experience
  • a 3-year comparison of 2016, 2017, and 2018
