Women in APEGA

APEGA is committed to promoting and encouraging a sustainable workforce that is innovative, diverse, and inclusive.

Individuals and organizations benefit from a diverse workforce. Research has shown that organizations with the highest representation of women on their top management teams:

  • have higher employee motivation and efficiency
  • have better financial performance
  • help employers attract and retain highly talented people
  • have a better corporate reputation

Women in APEGA Advisory Group

APEGA created the Women in APEGA Advisory Group in 2011 with the intention of increasing the representation of women in the engineering and geoscience professions.

The Women in APEGA Advisory Group recommends to APEGA’s Registrar & CEO about increasing the representation of newly licensed women in both the engineering and geoscience professions to 30% by 2030 (30 by 30).

Additionally, the Women in APEGA Advisory Group will recommend the engagement and retention of women in the professions to ensure inclusivity and sustainability of the professions.

In 2015, a document created by Women in APEGA was adopted and used to develop the national document Managing Transitions: Before, During and After Leave, which is jointly published and managed by Engineers Canada and Geoscientists Canada. It provides extensive checklists and outlines steps that individuals, supervisors, and companies can take to smoothly off- and on- ramp employees taking a leave of absence.
